报告人及简介:Dr. René Rossi is head of Laboratory for Protection and Physiology at EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. He has been working at EMPA for over 20 years in the field of the interactions between materials and the human skin. In 1999 he obtained his PhD at ETH Zurich for his work on the complex man-clothing-environment interactions in a firefighting environment. He is a founder member of the European Society for Protective Clothing and lecturer for Thermoregulation and Sports Textiles at ETH Zurich. Since 2003, he has been leading the Laboratory for Protection and Physiology at EMPA, a group of 40 researchers developing new materials and systems for the improvement of health and performance of the human body. Dr. René Rossi is member of the Editorial Board of the Textile Research Journal and of the International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics (JOSE). He is author of over 150 peer-reviewed publications.

报告大纲: Dr. René Rossi will present various types of smart textiles developed at EMPA for medical Applications. For example, a new bed linen with dot-matrix structure fordecubitus Prevention. The skin is the most versatile of our organs: It protects the body from environmental effects, contributes to the body’s immune system and supports metabolic functions such as breathing. The skin is always in action. Lack of movement is anathema to it. If a patient does not move, the ever higher moisture levels, pressure and effects of gravity lead to circulatory disorders. This increases the amount of toxic tissue, resulting in ulcers which can lead to life-threatening complications. A joint project by Empa, their industrial partner Schoeller Medical and the Swiss Paraplegic Centre focused on a method of bedsore prevention that was impressive in its simplicity: a sheet with a particularly skin-friendly surface. The special dot matrix structure of the fabric reduces pressure and friction and conducts the moisture away from the skin. Following laboratory tests and clinical trials, the clever sheet is currently undergoing final testing before its market launch, which is due to take place this year. It is now gaining international recognition.
